Addons are part of World of Warcraft: Forever, but under the rules of the modern client: Forever runs on the Midnight interface and API, not on Classic's, and inherits the “secret values” that keep combat data away from addons. Here is what changes, how to install them, what Blizzard's own interface already does, and which addons have a Forever build, including the Italian and Spanish ones. Source: ForeverMeta's census of October 23, 2026 (about 220 addons) and Blizzard's notes to addon authors; where we could not verify, we say so.
What changes compared to Classic and Retail
On September 15, 2026 Blizzard told addon authors (a post on the WoW UI Discord, reported by the Warcraft Wiki and Wowhead) that Forever shares the Mainline UI architecture, the main game's, and “the vast majority of APIs available in 12.1.5”. The Mainline family has two game types: Standard (Midnight) and Camelot, Forever's internal name, to be renamed before launch.
- The interface version is 16001 (Classic Era 11509, Midnight 120105) and the API is the modern one (
C_Item,C_Spell,C_Traits): a Classic Era addon does not load, as the community test of September 18 on the first beta build confirmed. - Midnight's restrictions apply: in combat many values are secret values, which an addon can display but not read; combat log events do not reach addons; inside instances addons cannot message other players; since October 16 GUIDs are obfuscated, so no addon can infer the layer.
Layouts, bars, bags, map, quests, auction house and chat still work, and so do boss timers within the limits of the secrets. Damage is counted by the native Damage Meter, validated server-side: Details! reads it from there (C_DamageMeter). What does not work: combat log triggers (the heart of many WeakAuras), reading other players' health or enemy cooldowns, layer detection.

How to install addons
The folder. In the beta, addons lived in World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns. The folder name at launch is not known yet: we will update this guide on November 4. Settings live in the WTF folder (a beta bug did not reload them, fixed from build 70009). Before launch, save a copy of Interface\AddOns and WTF: beta settings do not carry over to the live game on their own.
The managers. Forever is recognized by the CurseForge App (pick “Forever” in the version selector; if it is missing, three-dot menu → “Scan computer for games”), WowUp 2.24.0 (October 10, 2026) and the Wago App. By hand: the zip from the addon page, extracted into Interface\AddOns, then restart the game: for a freshly added addon /reload is usually not enough.
How to recognize a Forever addon. On CurseForge, the Flavor → Forever filter or the Files tab with a file for game version 1.60.1. In the .toc file, ## Interface: 16001, or separate files with the _Forever.toc or _Camelot.toc suffix (alias accepted since October 8); _Classic.toc does not apply to Forever. Many forks add “Forever” to the name: check the author, ClassicUI Forever warns about same-name clones. In game, “Load out of date AddOns” forces the load, at your own risk.
After every build. During the beta Blizzard changed the API and the frames more than once: after every patch, update everything from your manager, and keep BugSack with BugGrabber to see which addon errors.
The interface without addons: Edit Mode and Cooldown Manager
Before installing anything, look at what Blizzard's interface already does. Forever has the modern game's Edit Mode (Esc menu), verified in the UI code of the Forever branch and in the beta notes:
- two presets, Modern and Classic; every HUD element can be moved and scaled, Cooldown Manager, Damage Meter and Swing Timer included;
- layouts per account or per character; since October 8 gamepad layouts are separate from mouse-and-keyboard ones;
- Share copies the layout to the clipboard as a text string, Import pastes it back. It is plain text of 1,300 to 3,300 characters, with no UI scale, resolution, keybinds or macros. A tester explained on the official forums (October 18; not a Blizzard post) how to carry layouts from the beta to live this way.
The Cooldown Manager arrived in the beta on September 24 (off by default, Options → Gameplay Enhancement) and covers all classes since October 8; its code has a string export, not verified by us in game. Other native options: the Damage Meter (Options → Advanced Options; Wowhead guide of September 22), Swing Timer and Equipment Manager.
On ForeverMeta we are preparing a section to publish and vote on Edit Mode layouts (string plus screenshot), as with builds; there is no date yet.

Hardcore: the ruleset arrives after launch, with no date. Hardcore, UnitScan Hardcore, Hardcore Achievements and DangerQuestAlert carry the Forever tag; Deathlog has no verified Forever tag.
Language, Italian and Spanish: Forever has no official Italian localization, so these addons translate on top of the English client.
- QuestIT-Forever “ForeverITA”: translates quest titles, objectives and rewards into Italian; requires QuestITCollector. MIT code, translations under their own license (credit required, no profit or text-to-speech).
- WoWForeverIT: quests, tracker, tooltips and parts of the interface in Italian (
/wfit); 2,465 quest IDs with variable coverage, in beta. “WOW Forver - Italiano”, announced on Reddit, we could not verify. - Forever Hispano Companion: class guides, talents and professions in Spanish (
/fh); SendaFH, Polestar in Spanish. - Spoken with Spoken: Spanish (EU) (an AL variant exists too): reads quests aloud with a synthetic Spanish voice.
- Map Fix Forever: restores the maps, which show green on non-English clients (the page cites itIT, esES and esMX); not verified by us in game.
The WeakAuras and ElvUI case
WeakAuras has no official Forever build: the team gave up on Midnight (October 3, 2025) while staying on Classic, and Forever is Mainline; 5.22.0 of September 5, 2026 does not list it. The forks are MuscaAuras, a port of 5.22.0 made for Forever that imports WA and wago strings, but combat log triggers never fire and the classic “aura” trigger freezes in combat, and ForeverAuras, a separate project, GPLv2, with its own category on wago.io. Caveats: these projects are weeks old; strings may contain Lua code, so import only from authors you trust; many Classic or Retail auras depend on the combat log and will not work here.
Official ElvUI has no Forever release: 16.00 of October 13, 2026 on tukui.org covers 12.1.0, 5.5.4, 1.15.9 and 2.5.6; support is in the works (the code on GitHub declares Interface 16001), with no date. The unofficial ElvUI-Forever port on GitHub is not verified by us, and the WindTools, BenikUI and Eltruism plugins already have Forever files, but they are useless without ElvUI. Meanwhile Edit Mode, EllesmereUI or ForeverUI cover most of the need.
Safety, rules and paid addons
Where to download. Only from the managers and sites above or from the author's GitHub. An addon is a folder of .toc, .lua and .xml files: if it asks you to run a program, it is not an addon. Check the author, the Files tab and the date, and be suspicious of same-name clones. Some are written with AI help (Tweaks Forever says so) or have a closed license (ForeverPlus).
Do addons get you banned? No: they use the official API, and Blizzard can switch off any function. External programs that read or modify the game are a different matter. GDKP is not allowed in Forever (Q&A of September 17), even though Gargul carries the Forever tag.
The rules. The addon policy (2009, reposted in 2018) is still the only formal text: free addons with no premium versions, readable code, no advertising or in-game donation requests. On November 13, 2025 Ion Hazzikostas added Midnight's principle, “Addons should no longer offer a competitive advantage in WoW combat”, confirmed for Forever on September 15, 2026.
Paid addons. It is the controversy of the moment on the official forums. RestedXP gives the addon away and sells the Forever guides (free up to level 22; prices quoted by third-party sites are not verified by us ❓). Zygor announced Forever guides at launch: no file verified. Journey is at the center of the thread “Paid Addon - Forever Leveling Guide” (October 17, over 600 replies); according to one user it is free up to level 30 ❓. As of October 23 there is no blue reply; the claim that Blizzard said Zygor does not violate the ToS circulates on the forums, but we found no source for it ❓.
To check again after launch
- The client folder name, and whether “Camelot” gets renamed.
- Raid frames with click-casting (Grid2, HealBot, Clique): the September 18 test found them broken by secret health; they need testing in game.
- The Forever releases of WeakAuras and ElvUI, Layer-Swap after the GUID obfuscation, Deathlog when Hardcore opens, Blizzard's answer on paid addons.
Verified on October 23, 2026 against ForeverMeta's census (about 220 addons, 205 with a Forever file or tag); to be checked again after the November 4 launch. See also the glossary, the changes page, the rulesets guide and the calendar.

Frequently asked questions
- Do WoW Classic addons work in Forever?
- No. Forever uses the modern client's interface and API (Interface 16001, Mainline family), while Classic Era uses 11509: you need a Forever file or tag, which on CurseForge you find with the Flavor → Forever filter.
- Does WeakAuras work in WoW Forever?
- The official version does not: it has no Forever build. The MuscaAuras and ForeverAuras forks exist, with limits: combat log triggers do not fire and many values are secret in combat.
- Where do I put an addon folder?
- In the beta, in World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns. The game folder name at launch is not known yet: we will update the guide on November 4.
- Can I share my interface with other players?
- Yes, without addons: in Edit Mode the Share button copies the layout as a text string and Import pastes it back. ForeverMeta plans a section to publish layouts; there is no date yet.
- Are there addons in Italian or Spanish?
- Yes: QuestIT-Forever (ForeverITA) and WoWForeverIT translate quests into Italian; Forever Hispano Companion, SendaFH and the Spoken Spanish packs cover Spanish. The game has no official Italian localization, so they translate on top of the English client.
- Do I need an addon to see damage, like Details?
- No: Forever has a native Damage Meter, enabled from Options → Advanced Options. Details! has a Forever build and reads it from there; if Blizzard's meter is enough for you, you do not need it.
